The site may become a resource for movie or pop culture bloggers, which occasionally look to YouTube for relevant film clips.
LionsgateShop results in part from an ad revenue deal Lionsgate signed with Google, YouTube's parent company, in July, reports Reuters. A banner on the page drives users to LionsgateShop.com, where users may purchase the films.
"This is a propeller airplane version of this service," said president Curt Marvis of digital media. "We're hoping to get it to supersonic jet phase in the next six months with more clips and a more engaging experience."
Over time, each Lionsgate YouTube video will include a link guiding viewers back to a purchasing page. It is also arranging similar deals with other online video sites.
Last March, the film studio began incorporating iTunes Digital Copy files on its DVD and Blu-ray releases. The files enable users to watch films they've purchased on Macs, PCs, iPods, iPhones or Apple TV.
