TNT, PGA.com Offer Four Streams of Coverage

Turner Network Television and PGA.com will partner to offer live internet coverage of the 2006 PGA championships, August 17-21.

The coverage of the PGA tournament will be presented as part of four streams of broadband coverage, and is considered first time such coverage has been used for golf, MediaWeek reports (via MediaBuyerPlanner).

The first stream will be live coverage of the tournament, part of which will be exclusive to internet viewers, and part which can be viewed on TNT cable. The internet coverage will begin at 12:30 p.m.on August 17 and Friday August 18, and will have a regular announcing crew. At 2 p.m., the coverage will be simulcast on TNT and PGA.com and will last until 5 p.m. On Saturday, August 19 and Sunday, August 20, TNT will again air the tournament 10-11 a.m.

The second stream will be exclusive to PGA.com and will follow two threesomes of players each day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. The third stream will be called "Inside the Ropes," and will offer course flyovers, historical data on PGA tournaments, player profiles, and live coverage and interviews of players finishing rounds. The fourth stream includes the PGA Learning Center and will be hosted by Rick Martino, PGA director of instruction. It will be tied into live tournaments where player shots and strategies will be discussed, according to the article.

There has been limited advertising for the championship, as the program was only finalized eight weeks ago. However, TNT will continue to promote the site to viewers between now and the start of the tournament.
