TiVo has boosted its search capabilities with the launch of Universal Swivel Search, which makes suggestions on what viewers may like based on what they watch, reports Gannet News Service.
The search will factor in topics like title, actors, subject matter, and user suggestions. "It's like having all the answers to a television trivia game right in front of you," CEO Tom Rogers said.
With customer acquisition at a standstill and facing increased competition from cable companies, TiVo's decision to further develop its software may be the best, if not the only, move.
Comcast and Cox have already partnered to offer TiVo's new software as a premium upgrade on their DVR service. However, the Swivel Search won't be part of the package as of yet.
