NYT: AOL to Be Dropped by Time Warner
As we have been reporting it was likely to do, Time Warner has made the decision to change its name to drop the "AOL" prefix. The decision by the board this week was officially explained as an attempt to "avoid confusion" between the brands, but observers are interpreting it as an admission that the merger between the two media companies has fallen far short of the synergies hyped during the go-go dot-com boom era, when AOL's acquisition of Time Warner made it the biggest merger in history.
