Time Scuttles Office Pirates


Prepare to disembark

Office Pirates, launched with much ballyhoo six months ago by Time, has run aground and lowered its sails for good as of Friday.

The irreverent Office Pirates comedy site, led by former Maxim Editor-in-Chief Mark Golin, ceased operations on Friday, reports MediaPost. Time Inc. Interactive President Ned Desmond told employees that Time has decided to reallocate resources, including to an online humor effort with Sports Illustrated. Early advertisers included Dodge and Best Buy. Dodge is still running ads on the site.

Humor sites nevertheless still seem popular. IAC recently purchased a majority stake in College Humor, and Viacom is reported to be in acquisition talks with the Onion.
