Rumors are a-swirling that AOL will be spun off or merged with another company. According to Globe and Mail, Time Warner will decide its fate, once and for all, by year's end.
Under Time Warner's umbrella, AOL has transformed from a subscription-based ISP to an online ad sales engine.
In five years' time, Time Warner may split its cable division from its online division, AOL. Time Warner has already spun off 16 percent of its cable services as part of a plan to create publicly-traded equity to finance future purchases.
