Time Warner, Digitas Bring Clout to ScanScout Board

In-context video ads for
publishers and advertisers

Video ad site ScanScout announced today that Time Warner has made a large strategic investment in the company.

Senior VP Rachel Lam of Time Warner referred to ScanScout's Brand Protector technology and contextual ad model when asked why it was selected as a liaison.

"With video becoming an ever more prominent part of content strategies on destination sites, we see ScanScout and their contextual, in-stream advertising capabilities positioning them extremely well to address both advertiser and publisher needs," she added.

ScanScout's new board of directors was also announced. Co-founders Waikit Lau and Steven Lee serve as president and CTO, respectively. A handful of venture capital partners from First Round Capital and General Catalyst will also be joining the executive team.

And recently, COO Jim Rossman of Digitas and Paul Vidich, a one-time executive at AOL and Warner Music Group, joined as independent members.

Time Warner's Rachel Lam has been elected Board Observer, contingent on the company's investment in ScanScout.

In May, the company raised US$ 7 million in seed funding, courtesy of General Catalyst partners and a pair of angel investors. Competitors include YuMe and Adap.tv.
