Etsy, an ecommerce site for arts and crafts, is adding a "Pin It" button to its listing pages–that is, a social media button for Pinterest.
It will take its place next to the Tweet and Like buttons—and when a particular listing is "pinned" it will automatically display the price, TechCrunch says.
Growth Trajectory
Pinterest has been rapidly growing in popularity, especially among upper income women–which is Etsy's main user base as well.
comScore pegged the site's user base at 4.9 million unique visitors in November. In May, when it first landed on comScore’s radar, it had a 400,000-user base. Seventy percent of the users are female.
The site is built around the premise of users "pinning" or posting images of items they like. It has attracted several marketers interested in the viral—and free—brand building potential, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution said, including J. Crew and Whole Foods Market.
Social Search Signal?
SEO marketers might want to keep an eye on this site as well. It could wind up being yet another social signal for search.
