TheOnion.com Planning Online Video Effort

Satirical newspaper and website the Onion is reportedly planning a web video initiative.

Until now, the ever-wacky TheOnion.com has not focused on online video, despite the success of video on social-networking and other humor sites, writes MediaPost. But the Onion earlier this month apparently ran a Craigslist ad for interns for its video effort, and the Onion is being hush-hush about it. According to the Onion.com media kit, its viewers are 151 percent more likely than the online average to have streamed audio and video in the previous 30 days.

Meanwhile, according to rumors last month, Viacom is interested in buying the Onion, which has denied being in talks with the media giant.
