Foursquare, not surprisingly, and Microsoft, a little more surprisingly, have introduced new features and an app, respectively, that are focused around events.
Foursquare is partnering with ESPN, Movietickets.com and Songkick for its events check in. ESPN will provide not only event details, but also information about the game. Ditto for MovieTickets.com: users can see not only showtimes, but also summaries and links to more info. Songkick offers details about concerts. Each event appears in the app a few hours before it starts. All told, that means hundreds of thousands of events at more than 50,000 venues in the next few months, Foursquare says, which calls the new feature “a great way to include big events and save the shout-typing time, without creating too much clutter in our UI.”
We’re In
Bing has introduced a Windows app called We’re In aimed at organizing group outings or meetings. The user invites a or friends, and when they join, they'll see the user’s location and he or she see theirs. When the invite expires, so does the shared location.
Likely Bing will introduce more such apps. Windows’ Steven Sinofsky said on the company's Building Windows 8 blog that it has formed an "App Store" team.
