The Hidden Life of 'Streamies'

Streamies: at a cubicle near you

A new report has profiled the media habits of heavy consumers or online video and audio, reports MediaPost.

The new report from Knowledge Networks/SRI coined the term "streamies" for online users who heavily consume streaming media.

Among men in this category, 43 percent are between ages 12 and 17. 36 percent fall between 18 and 34, and only 21 percent are 35 to 64 years of age. For women, the age groups break down to 40 percent, 16 percent and 11 percent, respectively.

Most streamies spend more time online than non-streamy counterparts. However, they do not forsake other media in favor of the Internet. Overall, more of their day is spent consuming media than other demographics.

Most streamed content is viewed at non-home locations like the office, where media options are limited.
