Along with the launch of The Daily - Rupert Murdoch's national daily news publication created from the ground up for iPad - Apple is also introducing changes in news app pricing.
Going forward, subscription pricing will be available in one-click billing, Tech Crunch reports, on either a weekly (99 cents) or yearly ($39.99) basis. The Daily is the first publication to roll out with this pricing policy but other publications will be making similar announcements soon.
Yes, It is True
Meanwhile, it is becoming apparent that rumors that Apple is stepping up enforcement of guidelines requiring publishers to take payment via the iTunes store are in fact true. Besides reports of Sony Corp.’s e-reader app being rejected by Apple, Yudu, the UK developer of digital editions for publishers, has also been alerted to the change, the Wall Street Journal reported. It submitted an application for a new app and received an email outlining Apple’s plans, according to the company’s CEO Richard Stephenson. Yudu already processes transactions through iTunes but other publications that do not and conceivably will be affected include The Wall Street Journal, Pearson PLC’s Financial Times and Zinio.
