Teens, Tweens Watching More TV Online

Kids are increasingly watching television programming online, according to a new study from MindShare Online Research group.

One-third of teens age 12-17 and a quarter of tweens age 8-12 watch TV on the internet, writes MediaPost, citing the Mindshare survey of 800 kids between the ages of 8 and 17 and split evenly between the sexes (via MediaBuyerPlanner). Twelve percent of those surveyed said they watch TV on their videogame systems, and single-digit levels of respondents said they watch on their cell phones or iPods.

The listenership of iPod/MP3 players has doubled in the last year among teens, but the No. 1 device owned by youths remains the radio. Broadcast radio is also the most popular way to listen to music.

Television was the medium they would most miss if it were taken away, teens and tweens said; TV is followed by videogames and the internet. Newspapers and magazines, perhaps predictably, barely registered a single percentage point.

The study shows that the amount of television being consumed by youth is the highest it has been.
