Technorati: Blogosphere Still Growing, Signs of Slowdown

Technorati says it is now tracking more than 57 million blogs, and the blogosphere is doubling in size approximately every 230 days.

Some 100,000 new blogs were created each day during the last quarter, down slightly quarter-over-quarter but probably due in part to spam-fighting efforts, according to the latest State of the Blogosphere report by Technorati's David Sifry (via Micro Persuasion). About 55 percent of all blogs are active (that is, they were updated at least once in the last three months).

The total posting volume of the blogosphere has leveled off to about 1.3 million postings per day - a tad lower than last quarter but about double the volume of the year-ago quarter. There is a strong correlation between the aging and post frequency of blogs and their authority and Technorati ranking, according to the report.

Among the top four blogging languages, the use of English and Spanish languages is more global (not unexpectedly), whereas Japanese and Chinese are more regional. For the first time, Farsi has moved into the top 10 languages of the blogosphere.
