In a follow-up post on the previous day's about Technorati's State of the Blogosphere report and blog survey, Dave Sifry writes that it is tracking about 900,000 blog posts being created each day - or about 10.4 posts per second, on average. According to the data, weekends tend to be slower posting days, and posting tends to peak between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. (Eastern Time), and global news events heighten activity in the blogosphere - in not only search but also posting volume.
Posting volume has doubled this year alone - between January and August, in part due to the growing number of mainstream blogging tools such as MSN Spaces, AOL Journals, Blogger, and LiveJournal. At the end of July, about 37,500 posts were being created every hour.
Posting volume is likely a better measure of blog activity than the number of blogs being created, and a better indicator of whether blogging is just a fad or a sustained activity.
Posting volume has been growing, with a strong upward trend.
The total per day peaked at just over 1.1 million after the Live 8 concerts and Justice Sandra Day O'Connor's announcement of her resignation from the Supreme Court.
