eMarketer forecasts healthy spending increases for online advertising by technology marketers and manufacturers, with online advertising in the computing category (hardware and software) expected to grow to $2.85 billion in 2007 (or 16 percent of all online ad spend - and a 22 percent year-over-year increase), from an estimated $2.34 billion this year (15 percent of online adspend ) and up from $ 1.94 billion in 2005.
"As a share of total online spending, computing products drifted downward, from 20 percent of all online advertising in 2003 to just 15 percent in 2005," says Lisa Phillips, eMarketer senior analyst and author of the report, "Technology Marketing: Customer Driven Convergence."
She adds that "major changes in platforms and business models and competition with consumer electronics mean that online ad spending by technology companies will once more keep pace with overall online advertising growth."
