Turner Broadcasting plans to launch a broadband comedy network in January.
TBS's "Super Deluxe" network is intended to be a cross between a TV comedy channel and social-networking site, featuring content known and unknown comedians and allowing users to swap videos and create profile pages, reports MediaPost. Comedians will be able to strut their stuff on their own pages, offering exclusive content, blogs and promotional information.
Super Deluxe content, featuring TV-quality programming, will also be available through a cable video-on-demand channel, mobile devices and other platforms. No advertisers or sponsors have yet been announced. TBS's advertising approach will reportedly range from customized promotional pages to original comedy pieces commissioned by advertisers.
The site is intended to appeal to the 18-34-year-old demographic. "They watch a lot of TV and movies and they're wildly social," according to Drew Reifenberger, SVP and general manager of Super Deluxe. "We're just trying to feed that demand, but with quality, original pieces."
