Survey: Consumers Say E-Commerce Sites Fall Short

Consumers say multi-channel retailers' e-commerce sites are not up to snuff, according to survey results released Tuesday by Millard Group, reported DM News. Only 50 percent said the item received matched the online description, and 45 percent said products were described accurately online. Inventory status is readily available on sites according to 45 percent of respondents, and only 40 percent said they could quickly find the products they wanted.

Thirty-five multi-channel merchants participated in the study, generating 50,000 completed customer surveys in the latest quarterly Online Multichannel Survey for the quarter ended May 31. Some 79 percent of respondents said email order verification was very important, but only 63 percent rated their satisfaction level with that aspect as excellent.

The ability to view an item in a selected color was very important to 73 percent, whereas only 44 percent said the sites provided excellent levels of satisfaction in that regard. A zoom to enlarge feature was very important to 71 percent, yet 44 percent were fully satisfied with that aspect of the sites.
