Internet Retailer: 66% of marketers violate CAN-Spam, but they`re not spammers, says new study
An Arial Software study found that two thirds of email marketers fail to comply with the Can Spam Act, yet they aren't violating it by spamming. After signing up for the lists of more than 1,000 companies, Arial discovered that extremely few companies then spammed the submitted email addresses. About a third didn't even send anything - perhaps a more significant finding.
About one percent failed to honor unsubscribe requests in the legislated time requirements. By far the biggest reasons for Can Spam violations were failing to provide an unsubscribe link in emails (51 percent) or failing to require confirmation of subscription (72 percent).
