TV Beats News as Most-Viewed Content Online

Who needs cable?

A new study conducted by TNS and The Conference Board finds that those watching TV shows online has jumped five percent from last year to 15 percent, replacing news as the most-watched content online.

Nearly 73 percent of online households use the internet for entertainment purposes on a daily basis and an additional 15 percent search for entertainment several times a week, according to the data.

Moreover, watching TV online has replaced news as the most widely viewed content online. 42 percent watch series episodes online to catch up on shows they missed, up from 30 percent last year.

Other reasons to go online for TV included avoiding commercials and personal convenience.
