StreamAPI Adds Appeal to Live Streaming Online Video

StreamAPI's media editor

Hoping to contribute to more ready adoption of streaming live video, Stickam's new service, StreamAPI, enables well-trafficked brands to stream video to a large audience for a white label fee.

StreamAPI boasts a simplistic interface — including a drag-and-drop editor that lets users put content online quickly and with little fuss. It costs $0.45 per GB streamed, so depending on the quality of video desired (HD is supported), clients can expect to pay as little as $0.05 per view hour, compared to rivals like Ustream which charges up to $1 per view hour. As an option, audiences can chat under the stream while watching.

The service also provides analytics data for user behavior and viewer hours — crucial user engagement metrics.

The online video market has managed to fare exceptionally despite poor economic tidings — but less control of content, heavier bandwidth demands and prohibitive maintenance costs have made live streaming video unrealistic for most labels.

StreamAPI hopes to change this with low costs, a simpler interface and a robust management system. "We're trying to power all live video on the internet," stated CEO Steven Fruchter to TechCrunch, which was given the opportunity to build its own online streaming destination. "[It] took just about a minute to have everything in place and ready to go," the publication reported.

To demonstrate the merits of StreamAPI, Mashable — which provided the image featured at left — streamed a chat-enriched custom player featuring The Killers.
