Wired reports that California Representative Mary Bono's anti-spyware bill finally made it out of committee. HR29, the Spy Act, scooted into the full House after being unanimously approved. The bill, now amended so as to allow typical cookie tracking, levies extremely high penalties on violators of its tougher provisions. Spreaders of spyware and people who use it for nefarious tracking purposes could face penalties of up to $3 million per infraction.
