CNET: Spyware cures may cause more harm than good
Web surfers are charging that some "anti-spyware" software companies are tricking users into installing still further spyware programs, merely eliminating the competing pieces of software. A large group of users has been monitoring the behavior, and the Center for Democracy & Technology may soon file a formal complaint with the Federal Trade Commission.
One program alleged to be a "trojan horse" for installing additional spyware is SpyBan. When a CNET reporter started tracing down the people running that firm, they took down their website's contact information page and ceased answering email queries.
