Straits Times: Yackety-yak, talk isn't cheap
To understand a market, you need to be aware of the extremes. In September a teen in Singapore ran up an SMS chatroom-fueled bill of $2,300 in 15 days. The teen's mother blames the chatroom, whilst acknowledging that her son is also to blame - "My son is to blame too, but youths being youths, what to do, what to say? If everybody is so obedient, we'd be in heaven."
With the reverse billing technology that is now available, there is certainly an opportunity for brands to do something in the general area of SMS chat. If this kid is anything to go by, this channel is set to become very popular.
