Skype Blames Worldwide Outage on Windows Software Patch

Less stable than believed?

Skype has pinned the cause of its massive outage last weekend on a Windows software patch, reports The Globe & Mail.

The VOIP company says a Windows software patch necessitated the near-simultaneous restarting of massive amounts of personal computers. When they started back up they all hit Skype's servers to login, causing the system to crash.

A reported flaw in Skype's software meant the system did not automatically adjust, resulting in the down time.
