Sirius XM Radio has unveiled a new application for BlackBerry smartphones, giving users the chance to hear more than 120 channels of satellite radio via their mobiles.
The application is free, but users must be subscribers to either Sirius or XM Premium Online, according to the company. Sirius XM App for Blackberry lets users surf through the 120+ available channels, bookmark Sirius XM internet channels through a “favorites” function, and view what is playing not only the current channel but also on all other available channels via the “lookaround” function.
However, licensing issues will keep Sirius star Howard Stern from being available via the BlackBerry app, writes Mashable.

Subscriber Numbers Rise at End of Year
Sirius XM Radio recently announced that it added more than 257,000 net subscribers in the fourth quarter, bringing its total subscriber number to nearly 18.8 million subscribers.
But the company may suffer in terms of subscribers when superstar radio host Howard Stern’s contract ends at the end of 2010. Stern is considering leaving satellite radio to return to terrestrial. The first year he was with the satellite company, Sirius drew 2.7 million new subscribers. Last year, the company lost 231,098 subscribers, and only narrowly avoided bankruptcy when Liberty Media Corp. bought a 40% stake in exchange for $530 million in loans.
Sirius XM to Report $100M of Free Cash Flow
The company is in a stronger financial situation now, however, and expects to report over $100 million of free cash flow for 2009, an “extraordinary improvement over the pro forma negative free cash flow of $552 million that the company experienced in 2008,” said CEO Mel Karmazin, who added that this is the first year in the company’s history that it has generated positive free cash flow for the entire year.
