SF Bay Ad Group Raises $16,000 for OLPC

Weather-proof, child-proof,
pessimist-proof

A San Francisco-based marketing trade group has raised $16,000 for the One Laptop Per Child initiative.

The Bay Area Interactive Group held an auction at its Yahoo-sponsored holiday party, putting items like an Xbox 360, restaurant gift certificates and more up for bidding.

With $16,000 raised, the group plans to purchase 80 OLPC laptops. 40 will go to children in developing countries and 40 will go to children in the San Francisco Bay area.

The One Laptop Per Child program builds and distributes internet-accessible laptops loaded with educational material. They are designed to last in harsh climates and are self-powered for use in areas with little reliable power.
