Shipments of set-top cable boxes are expected to double by 2011, reports WebProNews.
Set-top box sales are being driven by the demand for digital cable, which is growing because of the pending shut-down of non-digital signals. Cable providers are also using the boxes as a way to offer both TV and Internet services across screens in home.
Because people are increasingly watching TV online and interactive television is fast becoming a reality, cable providers are looking for ways to continue to serve their customer base. In the next few years they hope to be driving the availability of both.
