Internet Retailer: Placing in top three pages of results key to search marketing success
As most suspected, more than 80 percent of search users never go beyond the first three pages of results. An iProspect study also found that almost a quarter of searchers stop at the first few listings on the first page. Another quarter manages to read the whole first page, and only another 15 percent go on to read as many as three pages.
Interestingly, the study found that women were far more likely to lose patience with a search, with 44 percent indicating they move on without seeking additional search pages.
