Apparently following in the footsteps of the TimesSelect online premium offering of the New York Times, starting next week The Scotsman will begin to charge for access to portions of its news website, according to a Poynter post (via paidcontent). The Scotsman's program, "Scotsman.com Premium," similar to that of the Times, will provide access to its opinion columnists (but not only them) only to paid subscribers while keeping most other content free.
As of June 20, the site will charge £29.95 per year for opinion, analysis, columnists, games and content from "professional pages" (law, education, media & marketing, government & public affairs, and science).
The Wall Street Journal - in what many considered a divergent approach, but one that actually brings their respective subscription models closer to each other - last month signaled that it would be giving away some of its till-now premium content.
