Russian Female Audience Enjoys Online Growth Spurt

As of today, Russian search site/widget creator Quintura's monthly audience hit eight million unique users across the globe — three million of which are referred from woman-targeting Russian websites.

Part of what Quintura does is build search widgets, which many woman-oriented sites, such as those below, employ on their homepages:

  • Cosmo.ru: The online Russian home of Cosmopolitan magazine, boasting one million monthly users.
  • Passion.ru: A women's journal, 1.5 million monthly users
  • MissFit.ru: A destination for fitness lovers — 100 thousand monthly users.

About 12 million female users currently populate the Russian Internet (nicknamed "Runet"), making Quintura's penetration in the demo about 25 percent.

What's more, the online female audience is growing 20 percent faster than the male one, Quintura claims, with online ad spend specifically for female-targeting sites estimated at $22 million in 2007. Ad spend for the sector is growing 110 percent per year, higher than average market growth of 73 percent.
