Rural internet users are more likely to shop online than their urban counterparts, according to a Hitwise analysis. In the four weeks ending December 4, they were 16 percent more likely to visit a shopping site. Retailers saw many existing and local customers visit their sites. Those chains with regional bricks and mortar presences tended to see traffic coming from that region.
