Apple's September 5 press event, dubbed "The Beat Goes On," is a cattle call for its next-generation iPod lineup, according to MacRumors and Digitimes.
According to Digitimes, Taiwan-based contract manufacturers have reported the upcoming release of an iPod video with a touch-control interface, as well as Flash capabilities and Wi-Fi connectivity.
Production of the new iPod was reportedly outsourced to Inventec Appliances in Taiwan, which plans on starting volume shipments at September's end or early October.
A series of patent filings reported in October 2006 foreshadowed the existence of the iPhone, as well as the possibility of a wireless iPod.
