Return Path Absorbs Rival Habeas

Make room for the new logo

Email reputation firm Return Path has purchased rival Habeas.

The consolidation "solidifies the quality of our reputation network," said VP and general manager George Bilbrey of Delivery Assurance Solutions at Return Path. Both companies help marketers improve email deliverability to clients.

While integration plans remain uncertain, Bilbrey said each firm's respective products will likely be availed to the other's customers. Return Path's Sender Score Certified whitelist product will also remain separate from Habeas's SafeList.

Pending the merger, Return Path's clients will span 1500 worldwide. Habeas adds about 40 employees to its headcount of 150; some will be laid off.

"As with any business acquisition there will be some impact on employees," Bilbrey lamented. "We've worked really hard to keep any terminations to an absolute minimum."

Habeas began shopping for a new parent earlier this year. Its Mountain View offices will remain open after the acquisition closes around August 18. Financial terms were not disclosed.
