With no major mishaps or e-commerce fails reported for the last week of the holidays, the retail industry can congratulate itself. After the Black Friday-Cyber Monday holiday weekend, there had been some disgruntled reports. Last minute preparations no doubt helped at least some retailers avoid a repeat.
Sites that did particularly well included J. C. Penney—which was a top performer—as well as Abercrombie & Fitch Co., Amazon, American Eagle, Apple, Gap, Home Depot, J. Crew, QVC, Saks Fifth Avenue, Sears, Staples, Symantec, Target, Toys “R” Us and Urban Outfitters, according to a Compuware study. (via CMS Wire).
It attributed light third-party content, lightweight JavaScript and static images hosted on a separate cache domain as some of the reasons.

2011 saw two major retail website fails, according to Apica Systems. One occurred when H&M launched the new Versace collection and the other was the much anticipated launch of the Missoni Collection at Target in September.
