Register.com Settles Class Action Suit; Get Your $5 Coupon

Register.com: Notice of Class Action Settlement and Hearing
InfoWorld: Register.com "Coming Soon" Case: Dumb and Dumber

I just got notice of the above class action settlement, and if you have ever used Register.com to secure and Internet domain, you probably did, too, or soon should. As the headline from the InfoWorld blog post suggests, it's a very stupid case. A certain Michael Zurakov feels aggrieved that Register didn't spell out in the fine print that when he registered a domain, they'd put up a "Coming Soon" page that linked back to Register.com. Gimme a break.

The upshot is that, not being able to get the case thrown out of court, Register has awarded Mr. Zurakov $12,500 for his pain and suffering and (get this) $642,500 to his lawyers. The rest of us get a $5 coupon we can spend at (guess where) Register.com. Whoopie! Don't blow it all at once.
