Newspaper ad revenues totaled $14.3 billion in 4Q05, a mere 1.4 percent than in the year-earlier quarter - but newspaper website ad revenue growth was again in the double digits, according to the Newspaper Association of America, writes MediaPost. For all of 2005, ad spending on newspaper websites increased 31.5 percent from 2004, reaching a record $2.0 billion.
Ad spend on newspaper websites reached $552 million in the fifth quarter, a 32.5 percent increase from 4Q04 - and the seventh consecutive quarter of double-digit online increases, the NAA reported.
In the fourth quarter, classified advertising spending increased 3 percent to $5.2 billion; retail was down 1.3 percent to $6.4 billion; national was down 0.53 percent, coming in at $2.1 billion.
