RealNetworks Buys Trymedia, Doubles Syndication Scope

Less casual than others

Digital entertainment firm RealNetworks has absorbed the assets of Trymedia.

Trymedia syndicates PC-based casual games for portals, online retailers and game developers.

The purchase — which includes Trymedia's over 250 partnerships with firms like AOL, Yahoo and IGN — doubles the number of RealNetworks' syndication relationships.

RealGames, a division of RealNetworks, aspires not just to attract more users; it also hopes to draw better game developers and more relevant gaming advertisers into the fold.

Last month, a RealGames survey found most casual gamers are willing to endure ad exposure for free games. These include pre-roll and between-level ads.

34 percent of respondents (of which there were 1500 total) also said they would click on ads to find out more about a product of interest.
