RadioShack Guides the Vision-Impaired - to Point of Purchase

RadioShack has just announced it will implement technology to help blind computer users better access products on their site, reports Internet Retailer.

Visually-impaired users who use screen reader or magnification technology, or who heavily depend on keyboards to navigate the 'net, will find friendlier service at RadioShack's online destination. Changes to the website will not affect its overall look and feel.

The company will also install equipment with tactile keypads to protect the privacy and security of the visually impaired when conducting transactions at physical stores.

RadioShack joins Amazon.com as a handful of the largest e-tailer launch initiatives to assist the vision-impaired.

The announcement to improve services to visually-impaired customers is the result of a collaboration between RadioShack and the American Foundation for the Blind, American Council of the Blind and California Council of the Blind.

The point-of-sale devices, manufactured by Ingenico, are expected to be in place by the end of September.
