qtags, Charter Digital Media Launch NY Mobile Ad Program

qtags and Charter Digital Media have announced (via The Houston Chronicle) a new program that lets advertisers create and implement interactive ads in some of New York City's most visible locations, writes MediaBuyerPlanner. qtags send consumers brief messages to mobile phones that can include phone numbers, web addresses, special offers, store locations, business hours and more.

The Take5 program includes 500 five-second spots a day on digital signage on the Port Authority Screen in Times Square, PATHVision commuter transit screens (NY/NJ), in-store signage and other prime areas. Each ad comes with a qtags text word that allows consumers to access additional information via the company's text-to-shortcode service.

According to qtags, when people see a qtag displayed on an advertiser's campaign, they can text it to 78247 and get information bookmarked two ways: In an immediate reply text, and in a web-link stored in a inbox hosted at www.qtags.com.

If they don't see a qtag displayed, they can still text what they want to remember to 78247, and it'll be stored in a qtags inbox. Users stay anonymous and are not charged to use qtags, though standard carrier texting rates do apply.
