PS3: ringleader of
the home theatre?
The Sony PS3 is aiming to become the center of home entertainment.
In an interview with SCEA's head of marketing in New Zealand Warwick Light, The Press learns that Sony intends to "transform the PS3 capabilities so as to meet people's changing entertainment needs."
Among the features, the PS3 will launch a digital tuner that will turn the gaming system into a programmable TV recorder, or DVR.
Thanks to Digital Living Networked Alliance support, the system will act as a media hub, communicating with other electronic devices such as laptops to stream music, movies and pictures onto the television.
"If you think of Xbox Live and its ability to show player rankings, well in PlayStation Home, if you take, say, a Gran Turismo hall of fame, you'll be able to walk around the hall of fame, and if you've won a tournament or a cup, you'll have that cup in your Home space," Light said.
Sony is also taking online gaming a step higher by presenting it as a virtual world called Home, which we mentioned earlier.
