Powerpoint as Bad Influence

Wired: Powerpoint is Evil

stalin.jpg

Many in the marketing biz are big fans of Powerpoint. But perhaps distilling marketing ideas into bite-sized bullet points isn't the best thing when trying to communicate a marketing strategy, media plan or other information-intensive idea. We've all been in situations where a 20-page Word document needs to be pared down to three slides within a presentation deck for a client. And we all know how much that sucks.

What sucks more is that, according to a new treatise, kids are learning how to use Powerpoint and other slideware packages in ways that might be detrimental to their education. Schools use Powerpoint, and its might be responsible for children creating schoolwork that looks more like a client presentation than a book report. Then again, maybe I can hire my 10-year-old little cousin to put together decks for me. She'd probably be better at slide animations than I am.
