Porn Producer Sues PornoTube Over Copyright Infringement

You mean iTunes won't help?

In an X-rated twist to the Viacom-YouTube suit, porn producer Vivid is suing PornoTube and its parent, Charlotte, NC-based Data Conversions, for copyright infringment.

According to the LA Times, the lawsuit is the first of its kind in the adult industry. The offended party seeks damages of $150,000 per infringed work.

Though the adult film industry has had success profiting from digital formats, the proliferation of video sharing sites has softened sales, largely because porn viewers can get what they're looking for in free clips of five minutes or less.

Porn studio Red Light adds that piracy reduced its profits by 35 percent. The company intends to pursue individual downloaders, much as the recording industry has done.
