Pop-ups Reprieved With 'Popstitial'

MediaPost: System Actually Uses Pop Blockers To Launch Ads, Not Block Them

The pop-up serving vs. pop-up blocking boxing match is set to continue with the announcement of FPBA Group's Popstitial. It's a technology that detects pop-up blocking software, defeats it, and delivers a full screen "popstitial," a fancy name for yet another pop-up ad format delivered in Flash or still image.

Showing that the culture and technology of spammers may be spreading to online ad delivery, FPBA Group Vice President Byron Biggins defended the product by saying, "Publishers need advertising on their site, and there's only a certain amount they can put on the content page. That's the reason why they developed pops on the page. We're giving them another solution besides the pop to serve."
