The Portable Media Expo, starting tomorrow (Friday) in Ontario, California, might confront some competition from possibly the biggest name in podcasting, Adam Curry, who apparently plans to attend but has declined to speak or sponsor it - and may organize an "un-expo" nearby, reports Wired. Some 2,500 attendees and 50 exhibitors from 38 states and 22 countries are expected to turn out for the event, which organizers say is the world's first podcasting convention.
A Curry spokesman accused Bourquin of retaliating against Curry for refusing to sponsor the trade show or to speak at it.
Convention organizer Tim Bourquin said Curry's PodShow had demanded a free high-level sponsorship in exchange for some help with promotion and a speech by the self-anointed "PodFather," but Bourquin said the event was already popular and he didn't need Curry's help.
