Playboy will launch a digital edition with its October issue, MarketWatch reports (via MediaBuyerPlanner). Digital Playboy will, for now, be identical to the print edition. Christie Hefner, chief executive of Playboy, said giving Playboy increased distribution and worldwide access over the web will boost its advertisers' reach and provide additional advertising sales opportunities through ad-sponsored links.
The company expects the digital magazine to appeal to a growing number of readers accustomed to consuming media online, particularly men between the ages of 18 and 34, writes CNET. "There is a new generation of readers emerging, and advertising dollars are following - so expanding our online offerings makes sense," Playboy spokeswoman Lauren Melone is quoted as saying.
