Pink Banana Media Targets LGBT on Blogs, Social Networks

Matthew Skallerud launched Pink Banana Media, a digital marketing firm that caters to the LGBT (gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender) audience.

Pink Banana will focus on "utilizing social networks and tailoring their opportunities to [this] community," including MySpace, Facebook, YouTube, Flickr and blog development, the company said in a release. It will also provide more "traditional" online media services, like theme- and region-based banner and email marketing.

Witeck-Combs Communications estimates the gay community will spend $712 billion in discretionary income this year. Recent studies found gays and lesbians are more receptive to blog ads than heterosexuals. They are also more likely to buy auto insurance online.

Rivendell Media, Interactive Mail and NYC & Company (the tourism department of New York City), among others, have already signed on with Pink Banana Media.

Skallerud's other projects include GayMonkey.com, GaySports.com, PrideParenting.com, GayBusinessWorld.com, Navigaytion.com and GayWired.com, which he founded in 1995.
