PaidContent summarizes data collected by the Pew Internet & American Life Project showing that blogs are becoming a mainstream source of information and discussion. Fully 27 percent of those surveyed said they read blogs, up from 17 percent last February. One in fourteen people said they had created their own blog, working out to about 8 million people. RSS also broke into the stats finally, with about one in 20 web users saying they read at least one syndicated feed. Still, almost two thirds of those polled said they didn't know what the word "blog" meant. To most, they're just more sites.
