When I was a kid I used to daydream about all the cool prizes I could get if I collected about one metric ton of these codes you could peel off from under Coke bottle caps. Of course it was just branded crapware like glasses and bags. And I never got enough points to ever get anything anyway. I guess that's how you build a BS detector over time (I hear you thinking, what a founding life experience indeed!)
Anyway, believe it or not there is a point to this stupid introduction. Twenty years later you can apply to win one billion dollars through the Internet. You'll admit I do have some grounds to sound like an old fart ("things were so different when I was a kid" - damn, and I'm only 31.) Pepsi and Yahoo claim two million people registered in just over a month, which shows that the most traditional retail offline promotions can be extended online.
[PS: temperature reached 101ƒ today here in Portugal. If this is going to last, which is likely since we're not even in mid-June, expect more wacko posts like this one.]
