'Blades of Glory' will be the first
film in the format

In yet another twist to the next-gen format war, Paramount Pictures is dropping Blu-Ray on a global basis for the HD DVD format based on the format's "market-ready technology and lower manufacturing costs."
However, Deadline Hollywood Daily points out that the HD DVD camp allegedly shelled out $50 million to Paramount and an additional $100 million to Dreamworks for "promotional consideration."

The exclusive deal will include all movies distributed by Paramount, Dreamworks, Paramount Vantage, Nickelodeon Movies, MTV Films, and Dreamworks Animation. Films directed by Steven Spielberg will be released on both formats.
